i know you provided the math when you said which day your birthday was going to be, but i was more of an english gal and didn't add up right. is it today? did i miss it?

whenever it is/was, happy birthday!!!!! i'm going to have to figure this out.

sock-wise, those little holes are buggers. here are a few tips i've picked up along the way:

1. when picking up stitches, if you see an area where you think there will be a hole, go in diagonally so you're picking up two stitches within one (does this make sense? i can't describe it well).

2. if you have to, pick up extra stitches and just decrease a few extra times.

enjoy your gift certificate! how fun!

Oh - that is a great idea you got from Laura! I can't wait to start my 3rd pair of socks now. :) They really are the perfect commuting project.

Does this mean you've gotten through your knitting blahs?

Ok..so today's the day? Hippo Birdy to Ewe!!
Laura has a good hint...knit into the back of the stitch. Or I pick up both parts of the stitch and it keeps the hole to a minimum. You second one will better and each one after that.
Have a super good day!!!!

i get those holes a lot... i usually go back with a piece of scrap yarn after i'm finished with the sock and weave it in to close the holes... other times i just pick up more stitches than necessary and closer together so that the holes don't have a chance to form

Those holes where you pick up around the edge of the heel are really annoying, huh? If you knit into the _back_ of every stich (instead of the front like normal), it twists the stich and helps to close the hole. My socks look a lot better since I started doing that.
