We received the following message* from Chad, the proud recipient of Trudy the Tetrahymena.
Chad went on to give us a science lesson..
“Did I ever tell you the history behind the name “Tetrahymena.†They have a mouth with four membrane lips or “hymensâ€. Perverts. Actually I started to explain that once during a talk ….not thinking of the connections to the female anatomy….the place was roaring and I was really red in the face.”
I love Chad and I am so glad he is married to my BFF. He is the coolest ever.
* The original message came via text in an email message. In my quest to win the “Who is a bigger nerd: Chad or Wendy” contest I put it in the format you see here. Complete with a stamp from Mexico! If I had more time I would have added Trudy to the postcard. Sitting in the beach chair with a boat drink. I rock.

Okay, this is totally off topic. Have you seen the cool graphic at the NYTimes with the number of times the president uses certain words in the State of the Union. You can put in your own words and it charts it for you. Ahhhh… the satisfaction for chart nerds is almost endless.
It’s here right now, but of course, they might move it.

what kind of work does chad do with tetrahymena? what’s his research focus?
how’s that for a nerdy?
Awesome postcard format! Seriously, great idea.
well, you do heart dorks. But don’t we all?!
Yes, you do.
Yes you DO rock!!
Happy hymens to all!!
Wish that *I* lived on Cool Girl Avenue :-).
“science”
To put the cherry (no hymen pun intended) on top of the nerd sundae, you need to photoshop Trudy into one of the chairs.
Yep, but now I can picture Trudy in that chair, with glasses, with drink, with drink umbrella. And maybe flip flops or snorkeling goggles thrown casually to the side.
Very cool indeed.
