hmmmm, dooonuts

donuts

I have been “out of the world” now for 12 days. The weather here is keeping me indoors most of the time. It’s just too cold for baby. We have ventured out to the park to let the dogs romp a few times. Sophia gets a ride in the sling (thank you Melanie, for lending it, it has been a god-send) and I get some much needed exercise and fresh air. Today we have sleet/snow so I will likely remain indoors and surf the blogs. Which, by the way, I love all the lurkers come out over here. There are so many blogs out there that I have never come across. Talented, interesting woman. You go girls!

What I have learned about myself so far…

I’m addicted to Dunkin Donuts hot chocolate and glazed stick donuts. I partook in this treat a few times a month during my pregnancy. I had no way of knowing that I had become dependent on them. Robby is on his way home for lunch with donut and hot chocolate in hand. My knight in a broken car.*

* A broken car. Poor Robby got into a bit of a fender bender this week. Good timing huh? So far we think it’s drivable. We haven’t had collision on our policy for years. We drive a ‘92 Saturn with close to 200K miles on it. The blue book cost of it is less than any potential collision repairs we would ever have to make. However, when you’re looking at going from no car payment to a payment in one easy accident…after having a baby and taking time off work (some of which is without pay)…well, life gets stressful. In a weird twist…the guy that hit him? His wife is due with their first on Monday!

  1. Dayum, those doughnuts look tempting! And practically health food for a newly nursing Mom, as far as I’m concerned.

My pregnancy must-have was a grilled chicken pesto panini sandwich from the local take-out. I actually knew I was preggers with #2 when I found myself eating pesto right out of the jar with a spoon.

  2. Girl, I’m not pregnant and I crave donuts at least twice a month. They’re like bagels. But with sugar. And deep fried. But I do wish there were more Krispy Kremes in the area. No, strike that. That would be a bad thing for me.

Poor Rob! It’s OK to drive a clunker so long as you still have heat in this weather!

  3. I’m just catching up on your blog & am so thrilled to see you had a gorgeous baby daughter! Congrats! And those donuts look very yummy. I’d say that’s a good addiction. ;-) Enjoy getting to know your daughter. The time goes by way too quickly.

  4. Twelve days is a long time to be cooped up in the house! You could wrap li’l Bookish in a couple-three handknitted items and venture to the corner and back. Otherwise you’ll both go nuts. After my first child, born in early December many moons ago, my doctor told me I couldn’t drive for 6 weeks b/c I had a c-section. I DID go nuts.

  5. Ugh, stay warm - weather has been so crappy here for the last couple of weeks… sorry to hear about the car accident - Boston drivers suck! (ahem, present company excluded - just the sort that smack into people)

  6. I hope the car remains drivable. The donut is a needed food group for you… all those extra calories from feeding AND from lack of sleep!

  7. Ooooh. Those donuts looked good.
I had a 92 Saturn, too and traded it in for a VUE. I miss not having a payment!

  8. dollface, all the baby sling-type contraptions were a gift, not a loan.

    :)

  9. Hey there! If the accident was the other guy’s fault then the insurance should pay for it unless of course that totals the car which is what happened with my precious Saturn. It was hard going back to a car payment. Quite hard!

  10. Okay I’ll be in CT next month where I was born and raised and I’m going to go into detox when I get home from all the Dunkin’ I will partake of. YUM!

BTW, do you need a sling?

  11. ahh lady, so sorry to hear about the car. hopefully, everything works out in the end. stay warm up there in all that crazy freezing, snow, ice, and brrrrr!

thankfully, we don’t have dunkin donuts down here. i love love love their coffee and i would be tempted to get a donut more often than is necessary.

  12. Your post title says it all. Sorry about the car, but better a new car than having to go shopping around for a new husband/daddy. If it aint one thing, it’s two things.

  13. Must stay away from Dunkin Donuts! My favorite are the jelly sticks, and I just can’t go there at all or it will become a habit for me - which is bad, very bad. But I think nursing mothers need lots of extra calories so keep it up!

  14. Ooh, I miss Dunkin Donuts. When I was pregnant with #1, I had a chocolate creme donut a few times a week. No wonder I gained 72 lbs with her!!!!

  15. Wow. I wish I was craving donuts. I craved them with the Yarn Sniffer (baby #2). With this one, I’m craving Granny Smith apples and string cheese…

Hope everything works out with the car; believe it or not when a friend of mine was pregnant she had a fender bender with another pregnant woman (other woman’s fault). She had to get a new car, too. Rough timing! But at least you and Sophia weren’t in the car at the time… small favors, you know?

I’m glad to hear you’re having luck with the sling. I never could get mine to work with the others, and hope to get one this time around and get it to work. What kind do you have?

  16. I’ve had a couple of fender benders in my clunker and I just pull off the loose pieces and keep on driving. I’ve been lucky none of them have been parts integral to the car functioning. Drive it until you can’t anymore!

  17. Long-time lurker, first time commenter.

Glad it was a fender bender and all were okay!

Mmm. Hot chocolate. Donuts. Don’t you love breastfeeding? So many calories you need to ingest! Cross your fingers that your little one doesn’t develop a milk allergy - otherwise, that hot cocoa is toast. Sigh. Can you tell I haven’t had cheese, milk, cocoa in 2+ months?

  18. Crossing my fingers for an easy and cheap repair. And, better DD than, say, crack.

    15 Feb 2007 at 7:51 am

  19. So let’s talk hot chocolate. See, I’ve always assumed that DD hot choc came from a packet. But then they got those fancy-schmancy capp machines and I thought, hmm, maybe they are steaming milk and using choco syrup. Are we talking good hot choc? Worth a stop?

  20. It never rains, just pours, eh? Hope the car stays driveable until the paycheck returns.

    15 Feb 2007 at 9:22 am

  21. I have a hard time staying away from their iced coffees.

    Hope the car is fine!

  22. Mmmm donuts. I craved pizza and ice cream when I was pregnant with the twins. Those slings are definite godsends. My daughter loved being in it, and it made life easier for me because she seriously insisted on being held. Alot. I even used it for grocery shopping with one baby in the cart and the other in the sling. Made shopping a workout! I’m enjoying reading about your new adventures in motherhood. Sophia is gorgeous. Enjoy her. It goes so darned fast.

  23. Mmmm, Doh-nuts… Glad you’re doing well, managing to get out and about a bit. Hope the car is okay!

    15 Feb 2007 at 11:17 am

  24. Oh, yum! You are nursing, so you need the nutrition, right! (At least, I needed LOTS of treats.) Sorry about the car — not fun. The only “good” news is that President’s Day is a great time to buy a car — we bought our first “grown-up” car (Camry — okay — second most boring car next to our mini-van) a few weeks after our daughter was born.

    15 Feb 2007 at 1:49 pm

  25. Oh, yum. I ADORE the hot cocoa (esp the new “white”) at Dunk’s. I haven’t had a donut in a year… I love the chocolate cruellers (that’s what they used to call the “sticks”).

Glad to see Rob’s ok… there were so many minor accidents yesterday. thank god, most were minor!

    :) Kate

  26. You are killing me here. First the adorable daughter (I know you said her middle name was Christine only to protect her privacy- we all know she’s a Crinella), and now the donut pron? Do you know there isn’t a DD within at least 200 miles of here? I will forgive you, only because there were no munchkins in that picture.

    16 Feb 2007 at 2:59 pm

  27. Glad to know I am not the only one craving donuts and hot chocolate. I am also dependent on these. LOL
