Our city has many interesting and enticing activities during the spring, summer and fall. I think everyone tries to make up for the hell that is our winter.

One of the most fun things to do it to head to the Rochester Public Market on the weekend. It gets incredibly crowded and it is not for the faint of heart. I am actually surprised that a city this size has one (and has for decades) that is vibrant and going stronger than ever. One of my favorite things to eat there are Juan and Maria’s Empanada’s. To. Die. For.

Little Miss Sophia had her first this weekend.

She is quite smitten with them and the green garlic sauce that they come with (which is what she’s eating below).

I had been dreaming of these empanadas all winter. I was very happy to eat them again.

We took advantage of the nice weather and got a photo shoot with the new sweater. It now has watermelon juice on it, green chili’s, and empanada juice. You know what I call that? A job well done.

  1. Chins, schmins, didja see the gut and schnozz and twisted around bumbag on the guy behind you in the last pic (ohpleaseohplease I hope that’s not your dad or husband’s dad or anybody’s dad who doesn’t see the humor in me pointing out someone else’s schnozz and fashion foibles)?

Watermelon, green chiles, empanadas with garlic sauce…mmm…summer…

  2. Great sweater action shots. My goodness, she’s walking???!!! How ever did that happen so quickly? :D I’ll ignore yours if you ignore mine.

  3. Yumyumyumyumyummy. I love the empanadas! And, oh my goodness, Sophia is getting so big!

  4. If Sophia is anything like Til, she’ll just use them as a handle for when she wants to stand up while sitting in one’s lap or interesting things to play with while feeding. Le sigh. I hear you.

That is a completely gorgeous little cardigan. I love that it has a South American theme going for it now ; )

  5. you two are both adorable.

there’s a reason why i’m always behind the camera by the way.

  6. Chins. Don’t get me started on chins.

Your baby, though …. SUCH a cutie. The sweater looks great on her.

  7. It’s wonderful to see you both! It’s been awhile. We all have chins at that angle, kiddo. Great looking cardi on S., too.

  8. Yeah, chins. Don’t get me started, either.

But how adorable is she in her sweater and her jeans jumper, and WALKING! And yes, watermelon and green chilis on the sweater — a job well done, indeed. (soak that sucker in cool water and Borateem, ASAP!)

  9. The sweater looks great (even with the food decorations!) Your yearning for the empanadas sounds a lot like my longing for a similar Jamaican goody I get yearly in Key West! Sooooo good.

  10. I fear I am developing my grandmother’s chin. Er, lack of formal chin, excess of under-chin chin. But Sophie? Too cute for words.

  11. I know I have the chins too (thanks mom) Your daughter is too cute!

  12. Adorable!!

(And, I am so glad when people post super FOs, and then I have the book/magazine in my collection at home. I’m totally going to make that sweater too! I love it!)

  13. Love seeing that cute little sweater in action!

  14. Sophia is adorable in the sweater and the little denim skirt. I actually made cooing noises when I saw the picture and muttered to myself “that is gorgeous”. I think I am entering my dotage. Ah well, it happens to all of us eventually.

  15. She looks so grown-up in her sweater. Man, time really flies. Your post reminded me of going to the Phelps Sauerkraut festival every year. And sauerkraut cake was always on the list to get!
