The Bookish Girl

A brand new day.

 Is Obama President?

(thanks for the link super guppy)

It is often that you do not see how dark the cloud was until it is lifted.

Yesterday it was lifted.  The sadness, the horror, and the discontent has been lifted from my mind.

I believe that if we all sat down to talk about our ideas, values, and dreams for the future that 80% of us would be reaching for the same end point.  Our differences would flash in the methods and paths we would take to get there.  And that, to me, is our strength.

The tough part is mitigating those differences, capitalizing on them and motivating movement forward to a better future.

I believe that last night my country, of which I am unbelievably proud, choose a person who has the capacity and talent to bring us to that end point.   I am inspired, hopeful and thrilled to see the first black president take our highest office.  We have come a long way as a country and as a people and I am truly looking forward to what the future will bring.

Congratulations America.

You’re so very right, Wendy. It’s a weight that I’ve only truly been aware of since it has lifted.

But there is so much work to be done still. Here in California, a state that overwhelmingly voted for the first Black president still feels that a “separate, but equal” policy is appropriate for gay couples and doesn’t see the hypocrisy.

I am happy and sad all at once.

I’m truly happy that we elected Obama for President, but incredibly sad that California Prop 8 was passed.

Kiss your precious baby S and tell her that Mr. Cbana is President and that fact will bode a bright new day for her generation and the rest of the country, the world.

I am so thrilled and happy. But shaken by California, I can’t get my mind around that one.

Right on girl! What a great moment for our country, and especially an entire race that for the first time can “put down [and unpack] their suitcases” (Whoopi Goldberg) and get comfortable. Hopeful is a great thing to be right now…
